How long for the archiving of personal documents?

Did you know ? Some documents in your possession must legally remain so for a certain number of years, even for life. No offense to Marie Kondō or other followers of vacuum storage, there is indeed an irreducible box of archives that you will need to keep in a safe and dry place in your home. The experts at Archives Conseil help you list the documents that should be there:

Personal documents to keep for 5 years

You are required to keep all your bank documents, such as your account statements, for 5 years.

Personal documents to keep for 7 years

All your tax documents, i.e. everything related to your tax return. And it’s not just about keeping a copy of your statement, but also the documents required to substantiate it.

Personal documents to keep for 10 years

You will need to keep for 10 years:

  • all bank documents in connection with a loan;
  • all documents relating to construction and renovation works;
  • all your insurance contracts to which a notion of liability is linked (car insurance, for example);
  • all your monthly payslips.

Personal documents to keep for life

And finally, you will never be able to part with all these official documents such as birth or adoption certificates, marriage or divorce documents, deeds passed before the notary, diplomas…

So, have you found the beautiful box in which to store all this?
